Concept art for @wsa.london (When Spaceships Appear), Harringay's off-beat neighbourhood spot for records, arcades, games and things. Matt, the owner, very kindly agreed to display it in the shop 🙏🏼

- a record player's stylus as a spacecraft travelling through canyon grooves
- a tonearm-shaped spaceship playing the rings of saturn
- ancient temples inspired by the Technics SL1200 turntable.

We went with number 1 from this selection as the clearest concept and rendering.

Getting Midjourney to output something very specific, even with plenty of reference images and very detailed descriptions + lots of trial and error is still challenging!

That's something that also makes it interesting as a creative tool, as 99% of users are not pushing it in this way, and it takes time + experimentation to make something more original & bespoke.

This one is available to buy from the shop as a framed print (30x30cm).

This version gets much closer to the original, while adding the impression of light reflecting off ripples on the surface of water, creating a sense of depth.

To me, Midjourney is only really interesting when it produces results that fit within as aesthetic or intention that is directed, rather than offering too much randomness. I like the idea of using it as a pinch of spice, to subtly alter or create smaller elements within a whole.
